Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London.
Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations—a search for the truth that threatens to consume him....

##Brilliant！巧妙地利用瞭章節間的銜接和切換，混淆瞭不同故事綫之間的時間綫，成功保持懸疑和神秘到最後。看到後麵大呼“中計啦”的就是我。被糊弄瞭呢，卻又很開心，哈哈哈哈，怕就怕糊弄不到讀者的懸疑作品。用有句港劇常用颱詞總結就是——神又係你，鬼又係你！“Unexpressed emotions will never die. They are buried alive，and will come forth later，in uglier ways.”所以情緒一定要得到有效的發泄，屈埋屈埋就會屈齣病來。喜歡小說裏用的Alcestis這個冷門的希臘神話，不過拋開小說單從神話本身來說，我跟作者理解得有點不一樣，我理解Alcestis的沉默偏嚮於哀莫大於心死，而不是murderous rage。 @2020-01-31 22:15:28 @2021-12-22 11:06:45

評分##前麵慢慢聽瞭很多天覺得很拖遝，但後麵還是很精彩的！不像一般的thriller那麼嚇人，聽瞭作者訪談他覺得更是suspense，也受到希區柯剋的影響。

評分近幾年看過敘述最棒的故事之一 讀完很想找人講話 又感覺像題目裏的女主角一樣啞口無言 跟“gone girl”大賣之後成堆齣現的俗套“心理懸疑/人格分裂”類妖艷賤貨很不一樣 this debut novel is fresh, bone-chilling, meticulous, and disturbingly good. 每一章都很短 你會一直跟自己說just one more chapter然後完全放不下來 到後半部分你覺得在震驚裏經曆瞭“ah ha”moment之後 結尾還有更強大的反轉等著你 整個敘事和句式風格明明都很easy 但讀完讓你感覺deeply uneasy 推薦給想讀個好故事、但不介意情感上有幾天包袱的人
