在2012年，卡拉就曾在電影《安娜·卡捷麗娜》試水，飾演過一個小角色。

對於錶演她坦言：“從我記事起，就夢想著錶演。”

在根據《星運裏的錯》原著作者約翰·格林小說改編的電影《紙鎮》裏，卡拉初次擔任女主角，飾演一個英國女孩，吸大麻、罵罵人、愛生活。

沒想到初次擔任女主角，因在影片中的齣色錶演，被外媒大為誇贊：“作為此前隻在《安娜·卡列尼娜》裏演過一個小龍套的女演員，卡拉的錶現令人印象深刻”；“原來卡拉·迪瓦伊竟然真的會演”。

從此之後，卡拉片約不斷，連續在多部電影中齣演角色，如《重生》、《天使麵龐》，《愛裏的孩子》、《小飛俠：幻夢起航》。尤其是在2016年的《自殺小隊》扮演的魅惑魔女，足見卡拉並非如其他超模一樣對於影視隻是玩玩票，而是把錶演當成瞭事業認真對待。

不當超模的卡拉，片約甚至已經排到瞭2019年。

據悉，卡拉將推齣的這本多達300多頁的小說，講述瞭4個16歲的英國年輕人在懵懂青春期尋找自我與認識世界的故事，在 Ins 上，她上傳自己手持書稿的照片並配文說道：“我愛故事裏的4個角色，也愛他們所呈現的人生精神，他們所曆經的種種故事和人生巨變都和我自己的真實經曆很接近，所以我已經迫不及待要和大傢分享這本書瞭！”

而該書的齣版人安娜·瓦倫廷（Anna Valentine）則告訴《倫敦標準晚報》，她十分看好卡拉的處女作：“卡拉的腦子裏充滿瞭令人驚艷的想法，對於現在年輕人所麵對的處境也有很深入的觀點，我覺得她這本纔華橫溢的作品應該會頗受讀者歡迎。”
