The Silmarillion is an account of the Elder Days, of the First Age of Tolkien's world. It is the ancient drama to which the characters in The Lord of the Rings look back, and in whose events some of them such as Elrond and Galadriel took part. The tales of The Silmarillion are set in an age when Morgoth, the first Dark Lord, dwelt in Middle-Earth, and the High Elves made war upon him for the recovery of the Silmarils, the jewels containing the pure light of Valinor. Included in the book are several shorter works. The Ainulindale is a myth of the Creation and in the Valaquenta the nature and powers of each of the gods is described. The Akallabeth recounts the downfall of the great island kingdom of Numenor at the end of the Second Age and Of the Rings of Power tells of the great events at the end of the Third Age, as narrated in The Lord of the Rings.For the first time, we are publishing a deluxe edition of this pivotal work, featuring the revised, corrected text and including, by way of an introduction, a fascinating letter written by Tolkien in 1951 in which he gives a full explanation of how he conceived the early Ages of Middle-earth. 挺精致的，很漂亮，纸张非常精致质量非常好，唯一可惜的是纸张简直亮白，如果暗黄一点，会跟这本书本身的风格更搭吧

经过几代翻译工作者近百年的艰辛劳作和不懈努力，华语世界现在已经有了五套莎士比亚全集的译本，此前的四套版本均是散文体翻译，其中三套又都是以著名翻译家朱生豪的译本为底本和主体的（梁实秋先生独立翻译的译本也是散文体）。

这个是30周年的版本，只有一张托老亲手的插画，纸质是比较重白纸，后面有一张第一纪故事时期Beleriand的大地图，不舍的经常翻阅，怕摸黑了纸面，常读的话，还是另买一本简装的为好。
