##几十年历史洪流以第一视觉的放大镜下缓缓铺开。许多以前课本上一笔带过的历史名词，背后原来有这么多在现代看来不可想像的辛酸和扭曲。有许多章节看得眼泪止不住。大时代的洪流下，大多数个人的挣扎实在苍白无力，正如单博士30年后回到戈壁滩时，发现当初苦苦耕养的农地到头来还是抵不过戈壁滩的风沙而变回贫瘠。非常佩服单博士，为了改变命运，在艰苦的沙漠劳作中仍然坚持学习，在机会到来时如饥似渴、千方百计去把他们抓住。从戈壁滩逃离，短短十年时间，跃升至沃顿商学院的教授，除了命运的垂青，更离不开个人汗水的耕耘。
评分##大老板的书，坦白说很久没有读这样回忆录的书籍了，而Out of Gobi更多的是平白口语话的叙述，很难探究其间他对于这种历史背景的感情，但也可能，作为历史的一份子，几十年后其实大概就是这种淡然的心态了。 一个同事在amazon书评下说到有趣的一点，单总和圣上几乎是同龄人，经历过大抵类似的时代洪流，很多人都会低估这一代人的坚韧。 Shan的职业生涯回过头来看真的是非常的先苦后甜，当然没有在戈壁的困苦煎熬也没有后期来到美国后求学时候的勤勉刻苦，后面的贵人相助和诸多际遇实际也是德配其位的，真的很了不起。说起来有的时候Shan群发公司邮件依然会分享一些关于经济政治的看法，其实很有助益，可一些本地同事会有些不屑一顾，真的很浅薄

评分##事无巨细但绝不枯燥的回忆录，单老板有如今的江湖地位也是该当。观察学习思考能力算最基本的，即使在绝地困境下也能尽力突破（学医、研究砖泥搅拌机、搞好人缘、说服学校量身定制课程、多方奔走解决妻子赴美和签证问题等等），也有奇妙的际遇和善缘（Jefferson Starship的签名唱片！）。时势波澜写得也好，个人命题里做不了太深入探讨，但足够全面客观。
评分虽然知道插队苦，知青难，但是没想到当年能苦到这个份儿上，我爸在大兴安岭我妈在湖北十堰的经历应该和作者差不多，真是命运弄人，改变了一代人的命运。感觉作者刻苦勤奋聪明幸运，虽然命运被大环境左右，但自己却仍能生活得不错，看完感觉格外励志。

评分##前半部分主要是写作者上山下乡期间在内蒙古戈壁耕地，烧砖块，挖土豆，做赤脚医生等等的经历，在如此艰苦的条件下作者同时也在不停思考他们付出的劳动变成无用功的根源，还有如何改进生产力，但种种的努力都无法得到实践，可见当时政策的盲目性和破坏性之大，不仅浪费了一代人的青春（简直是流放做奴隶），也一定程度上造成了教育和文化的断层，后半部分主要是作者上大学和留学的经历比较平淡，但和前半部分一起看的话也挺神奇的，作者作为商学院的教授也是根据自己的经历写了一些关于市场经济和计划经济的思考，但这方面感觉可以写的更深入一些
