　　在我们这个星球上，有70多亿人口，200多个国家和地区，2，500多个民族，5，000多种语言。在地理位置、历史传统、思想文化等因素的形塑下，人们的生活方式、社会风俗、思维模式、审美情趣、价值观念等呈现出不同特点。在纪念孔子诞辰2，565周年国际学术研讨会上，国家主席习近平指出：“不同国家、民族的思想文化各有千秋，只有姹紫嫣红之别而无高低优劣之分。每个国家、每个民族不分强弱、不分大小，其思想文化都应该得到承认和尊重。
　　在经济全球化和科技进步的推动下，中国与世界的命运更加紧密地联系在一起。截至2016年3月和我国建交的国家多达173个，随着“一带一路”战略的提出与实施，我国与非英美文化国家的交往日益频繁。在我们大踏步走向世界的过程中，迫切需要了解各个国家的情况，了解各国的人民及其文化长目前国内出版的介绍外国国情的英语书籍大多限于英、美等发达国家，涉及其他同家概况的英语出版物寥寥无几。
　　为服务“一带一路”国家战略，促进各国人民的人文交流与文明互鉴。高等教育出版社引进英国Kuperard出版社Culture、Smart！及、Simple Guides系列丛书，编辑出版“体验世界文化之旅阅读文库”。本文库共96册，其中亚洲国家28册、欧洲国家31册、美洲国家16册、非洲国家14册、大洋洲国家2册，含“一带一路”沿线国家45册；另有一单独画册与科学系列和哲学系列丛书各2册。
　　“体验世界文化之旅阅读文库”用世界的眼光、易懂的语言、深入的剖析为学习者展示出一幅幅多姿多彩的世界各国风情画卷。每册简述相关国家社会文化的基本方面和主要线索，既有关于各国地理、历史、政治、国民性格、信仰、态度和行为习惯的描述，也有对普通人家庭生活、工作和娱乐、饮食特色、商业文化、社交礼仪的介绍。本文库为广大读者提供认识各国社会文化的一把钥匙，为那些准备出国交流、学习、旅游或工作的学习者提供基本的帮助和实用的工具性指南。学习者在阅读的过程中不仅可以知晓相关国家的风土人情，还能了解深层次的文化传统和价值观念，提高对文化差异的敏感度和宽容度，提升跨文化交际的能力。
