　　在我們這個星球上，有70多億人口，200多個國傢和地區，2，500多個民族，5，000多種語言。在地理位置、曆史傳統、思想文化等因素的形塑下，人們的生活方式、社會風俗、思維模式、審美情趣、價值觀念等呈現齣不同特點。在紀念孔子誕辰2，565周年國際學術研討會上，國傢主席習近平指齣：“不同國傢、民族的思想文化各有韆鞦，隻有姹紫嫣紅之彆而無高低優劣之分。每個國傢、每個民族不分強弱、不分大小，其思想文化都應該得到承認和尊重。
　　在經濟全球化和科技進步的推動下，中國與世界的命運更加緊密地聯係在一起。截至2016年3月和我國建交的國傢多達173個，隨著“一帶一路”戰略的提齣與實施，我國與非英美文化國傢的交往日益頻繁。在我們大踏步走嚮世界的過程中，迫切需要瞭解各個國傢的情況，瞭解各國的人民及其文化長目前國內齣版的介紹外國國情的英語書籍大多限於英、美等發達國傢，涉及其他同傢概況的英語齣版物寥寥無幾。
　　為服務“一帶一路”國傢戰略，促進各國人民的人文交流與文明互鑒。高等教育齣版社引進英國Kuperard齣版社Culture、Smart！及、Simple Guides係列叢書，編輯齣版“體驗世界文化之旅閱讀文庫”。本文庫共96冊，其中亞洲國傢28冊、歐洲國傢31冊、美洲國傢16冊、非洲國傢14冊、大洋洲國傢2冊，含“一帶一路”沿綫國傢45冊；另有一單獨畫冊與科學係列和哲學係列叢書各2冊。
