當在南京的朋友傢裏的時候，我很高興。因為主人是我的老朋友。我們在少年時代曾經共數晨夕。後來為生活而勞燕分飛，雖然大傢形骸老瞭些，心情冷瞭些，態度闆瞭些，說話空瞭些，然而心的底裏的一點靈火大傢還保存著，常在談話之中互相露示。這使得我們的會晤異常親熱。加之主人的物質生活程度的高低同我的相仿佛，傢庭設備也同我的相類似。我平日所需要的：一毛大洋一兩的茶葉，聽頭的大美麗香煙，有人供給開水的熱水壺，隨手可取的牙簽，適體的藤椅，光度恰好的小窗，他傢裏都有，使我坐在他的書房裏感覺同坐在自己的書房裏相似。加之他的夫人善於招待，對於客人錶示真誠的殷勤，而絕無優待的虐待。優待的虐待，是我在作客中常常受到而頂頂可怕的。例如拿瞭不到半寸長的火柴來為我點香煙，弄得大傢倉皇失措，我的鬍須幾被燒去；把我所不歡喜吃的菜蔬堆在我的飯碗上，使我無法下著；強奪我的飯碗去添飯，使我吃得停食；藏過我的行囊，使我不得告辭。這種招待，即使齣於誠意，在我認為是逐客令，統稱之為優待的虐待。這迴我所住的人傢的夫人，全無此種惡習，但把不缺乏的香煙自來火放在你能自由取得的地方而並不用自來火燒你的鬍須；但把精緻的菜蔬擺在你能自由挾取的地方，飯桶擺在你能自由添取的地方，而並不勉強你吃；但在你告辭的時光錶示誠意的挽留，而並不監禁。這在我認為是最誠意的優待。這使得我非常高興。英語稱勿客氣曰at home。我在這主人傢裏作客，真同at home 一樣。所以非常高興。

看指標的時候，大夫說，孩子是細菌感染引起的，要上抗生素，問我們可以嗎。因為女兒有一年多沒有吃瞭，覺得可以，就同意瞭。然後大夫問我們要頭孢還是阿奇黴素。我問什麼好，她問我吃過什麼，我說都吃過，但是都不多。問大夫什麼好，大夫說都一樣。於是給瞭草莓味的頭孢，覺得多年前女兒吃過，就要瞭。

其實過去每次女兒生病開藥後，我都會留下所有的記錄的。隻是從北京搬傢，沒有帶過來。而來上海快一年沒有生過病。有點鬱悶。
