评分##Again，不读原作不知道一个人的观点背后有一个精遂庞大的思想体系。不知该说密尔是悲观还是乐观，一方面在指出社会问题上鞭辟入里，到今天也依然受用，一方面又在根本上相信人的天性有自我发展的可能性，真是让人心神澎湃的人文关怀
评分##自由主义代表作，结构清晰，论证严谨，功力了得。久闻大名，但一直没读。胡适在他的文章里再三提及本书，还在日记中写他在本科时读这本书。反过来看胡的观点受密尔影响太深了，很多观点基本都是照搬过来。密尔对于个人主义与国家的论述我很喜欢：人的目标是发展自己的各项才能，而国家的价值是其国民价值的总和，因此国家的目标应该是尽可能帮助每个个体自由发展他们的心智。传承了洪堡特的启蒙主义思想，将其从个人层面提升至社会国家层面。还强调了公民民主实践的重要性，以及官僚体制精英化后走向集权的危险，really ahead of his time.
