　　美棠的日子其实很苦，本是大家闺秀的她从小吃喝用度自是不用愁，偏偏生于动荡的大时代，世事变幻，生活落得贫苦，丈夫又被派遣劳教，不得不打散工挣钱以帮补家计。她信里常常提到钱不够用，好多东西需要购置。后来得知平如身体有恙，便不再谈起拮据的事情，倒是嘱咐他少寄钱回家，多吃营养食物。
